Rush Numer 2; Devdas
Within the first 10 minutes of the film they take you too a room that is completely blue, the furniture the paint on the walls everything about it is blue. Everything except for the curtains and the drapes, these items were a very rich red color. Deep red that contrasted the rest of the blue room. The woman pictured in the scene was also wearing deep blues and reds, which blended nicely with the rest of the decor. I wonder what the significance of these colors to this culture may be. Perhaps it is the sign of royalty or wealth? Overall I found this scene to be very symbolic and captivating.

Zach, you've done a good job of noting some concrete details here and specifying where exactly they occur. But don't be stingy with your intellect--and don't use lack of knowledge of Indian culture as an excuse to avoid thinking. Ask yourself who this character is (not just her name, but her place in the story), and what it might mean within the context of the film itself (including the film's expressions of cultural issues) that she be so drastically identified with this particular space. Ask yourself, too, how this connection (these colors, this connection) link with other aspects of the film (perhaps in ways that haven't been actively/explicitly pursued by the filmmakers).
